Having first released in 1992, the Vans Half Cab Pro is a true testament to skate culture’s influence given that it only came about after skaters cut the collars off their taller Vans Caballero Pro models from ’89. Chicago-based Uprise Skateshop – who released two commemorative versions of the mid-top model this past weekend – continues in the tradition that sometimes a product’s intended audience knows best. The 22-year-old retailer stuck to much of the model’s original design – like the two-piece toe construction – but it also modernized the fit and feel of the heritage skate shoe, namely by way of a thinner tongue (and overall shape), higher foxing for more lateral support, and UltraCush HD sockliner for comfort. Although not original, the charcoal grey and white color-schemes chosen for this celebratory release are just as classic and understated as the shoe’s original black outfit. You can show your support for real skateboard culture by grabbing a pair of these Half Cab Pros from Uprise for $75 USD each.
